[Peverelist-Junktion]

Having returned from my yearly holiday badly sunburnt and hungry for the boundless frontiers of the internet and the new music it brings forth, I feel the need to do a mammoth post to make up for lost time.

First up a producer you may or may not be aware of by the name of Peverelist, who was first brought to my attention whilst reading the excellent ill-ec-tron-ic blog. This charming Bristolian (via Hatfield Peverel, which is where the name comes from interestingly enough) has been on the dubby-techno trip for a lil' while now, along with the more recognisable names of Appleblim and Shackleton over at Skulldisco. These enterprising fellows have been fusing minimal and dubstep to great effect and this tune is a rather tasty example. Syncopated kick drums and skeletal 2-step garage percussion punctuate rising pads and a fluttering synth line before dropping a nice wobbly/bouncy bassline to spice things up a bit and bring the dubstep flava.

[Karoshi Bros-Love The World (Magik Johnson Vox Mix)]

Ok, it's taken me ages to figure out how to post mp3's but finally im there. Simply click the link above and it'll take you to zshare and preview the track then if u like it follow the download link and Bob's your uncle...

The first tune i've decided to post is from house veteran Dick 'Magik' Johnson. The man has gone under many a moniker since his days rocking the Hacienda, but thats irrelevant really since he's still busting out tunes from his studio in Auckland. This is an electro/tech remix of a tune by the Karoshi Bros that i'm a big fan of mainly cos of the squelchy synths and cool vocals done by what sounds like an 8-year old girl. The lyrics also have something of an interesting message- a rare thing in the world of dance music i think you'll agree...

[BeepLowTech...]

So the second BeepLowTech night has been and gone and can I happily report that it was a roaring success compared to the last one. The frantic last minute flyering must have worked because (despite the small price increase) the sweaty basement we fondly call 'The Jazz Place' enjoyed a mini-revival. The atmosphere was really friendly (probably beacause most ppl knew each other already) and the low-down dirty tech funk and minimal house exhibited by messers Sam Batt, Stavros, Jakey and Simon Green would have destroyed even the cheesiest of dancefloors. The only disappointment was that they couldn't find a decent library to put the night on in, oh well. Stay tuned and I will try and post a mix from one of the Beep Low Tech DJ's...
