[Unitz-The Drop]

I recently acquired the new compilation by Radio 1's experimental stalwart, Mary Anne Hobbs. Fans of the woman who introduced dubstep to the FM airwaves will know she has impeccable taste and on first listen Evangeline doesn't disappoint. I must say some of the track choices were somewhat surprising; for example the beat-less drones of Ben Frost's Theory of Machines and Claro Intelecto's Beautiful Death. Although they do seem incongruous with the majority of the tracklist, they're stunning excursions into ambience nonetheless.

Dubstep is the order of the day for this CD and Hobbs has strayed away from the much maligned dancefloor wobblers, bar a couple of grime'd up smashers from Wiley, Magnetic Man (aka Benga, Skream and Artwork) ; and this pitch-shifting behemoth from Unitz which could quite possibly melt all your internal organs if played at a sufficiently loud volume...This tune is by no means an indication of the whole disc and I highly recommend purchasing to uncover the other gems that lie within...
