[Jake's Yard Party Mix (That should have been heard but never was)]

There once was a yard party. It never happened in the way I intended it. To start off with I wasn't there! The rest of it could well have been a loaf of Eurotrance. Poor silly fools! (Waiting for a tracklisting for this one- Mole)

[Mr Oizo-Flat Beat (Computer Club's Fat Eric Remix)]

Now, generally I find rehashes of old classics ultimately dissappointing, most of Alex Gaudino's recent releases are case in point. Fear not though, because the Computer Club have taken Mr Oizo's seminal Flat Beat and given it more beef than a crate of sirloins...It retains the shuffling groove and the scatty sub wobble, but has been dissected and distorted in to something that does the original justice yet gives it a stiff boot up the arse for the more demented of dancefloors...

[Unitz-The Drop]

I recently acquired the new compilation by Radio 1's experimental stalwart, Mary Anne Hobbs. Fans of the woman who introduced dubstep to the FM airwaves will know she has impeccable taste and on first listen Evangeline doesn't disappoint. I must say some of the track choices were somewhat surprising; for example the beat-less drones of Ben Frost's Theory of Machines and Claro Intelecto's Beautiful Death. Although they do seem incongruous with the majority of the tracklist, they're stunning excursions into ambience nonetheless.

Dubstep is the order of the day for this CD and Hobbs has strayed away from the much maligned dancefloor wobblers, bar a couple of grime'd up smashers from Wiley, Magnetic Man (aka Benga, Skream and Artwork) ; and this pitch-shifting behemoth from Unitz which could quite possibly melt all your internal organs if played at a sufficiently loud volume...This tune is by no means an indication of the whole disc and I highly recommend purchasing to uncover the other gems that lie within...

[The Tuss-Last Rushup 10 F]

Now my resit is over and done with, I can finally enjoy what's left of my summer, like I planned to. In commemoration of this excellent news i've got some absolutley-stonking-great tunes for you to dance around the room like headless chickens to. The first of which is this one from The Tuss; the mysterious new project from Richard D. James of Aphex Twin fame (allegedly). I know Jimbo posted an Aphex video a lil' while ago but that tune's from the 2001 Drukqs LP so I thought you might like to see what ol' Windowlicker is up to these days. Listening to this from the Rushup Edge LP, I really have no doubt that it is AFX unless someone has unshamedly ripped off his production techniques. The real question is, who else is involved? Answers on a postcard please...(My money's on Squarepusher)...

[Sine-Square-Saw Mixtape Vol. 1]

Afternoon all. In order to celebrate getting the download links sorted I have decided to unleash Volume 1 of the Sine-Square-Saw Mix Series on yo asses...Happy days! We're now using Zippyshare to upload mp3's as its super-quick, but sadly it doesn't give u the option to stream files before downloading them, so you'll just have to trust our judgement on the quality of tunes I spose. The mix itself is done by me on Ableton, as I have left my decks at my parents house until I move into the lush new student gaff. I have tried to dispel the myth that this kind of music lacks warmth and character with older and newer productions in there from a variety of artists....

[Daedalus-Just Briefly]

zShare seems to be (I hope) temporarly offline. I'm looking into alternative/more reliable filesharing resources so this doesn't become a regular problem. In the mean time enjoy some eye and eargasms from the oft misunderstood but always creative Daedalus in this video directed by Chroma* Fresh. While you're there check out the vid for Fairweather Friends (directed by Jordan Kim) too, as i couldn't decide which I liked better.

[Aphex Twin-Nannou]

Refuting all claims against techno's musicality.

[James Holden-Lump]

I once read a review of James Holden wherein some fella expressed the thought that, whilst very creative, James tends to get a bit carried away with effects. An idiotic opinion. I don’t know what the conventional hack is in to not and wouldn't go very far to find out, but I like my sounds otherworldly and transportive. Holden was born to crush, warp and make sounds bend over backwards and he does so with aplomb. I think it's Rubber Johnny from Chris Cunningham’s brilliant short (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l48HTZUHfeQ) on vocals but we will have to confirm this with James or Johnny.

[Nutone ft. Nathalie Williams-System (Matrix and Futurebound Rmx)]

Though I had given up pinching Knowledge Mag’s cover CDs the sight of Matrix and Futurebound showcasing the future sounds of Viper and Metro labels proved too tempting.

The selection of high quality bangers and rollers is what you would expect from the boys. Their remix of Nu:tone’s System is a particularly delectable slice of summer. Nathalie Williams' vocal crescendo does the work of the overused drum-roll drop, out of which the bassline unfurls. Matrix and Shimon’s Slipstream on the great Audioporn imprint is a mid-paced squelching liquid funk number over which some lovely high notes drift. Drum 'n' Bass Pop par excellence.

[Peverelist-Junktion]

Having returned from my yearly holiday badly sunburnt and hungry for the boundless frontiers of the internet and the new music it brings forth, I feel the need to do a mammoth post to make up for lost time.

First up a producer you may or may not be aware of by the name of Peverelist, who was first brought to my attention whilst reading the excellent ill-ec-tron-ic blog. This charming Bristolian (via Hatfield Peverel, which is where the name comes from interestingly enough) has been on the dubby-techno trip for a lil' while now, along with the more recognisable names of Appleblim and Shackleton over at Skulldisco. These enterprising fellows have been fusing minimal and dubstep to great effect and this tune is a rather tasty example. Syncopated kick drums and skeletal 2-step garage percussion punctuate rising pads and a fluttering synth line before dropping a nice wobbly/bouncy bassline to spice things up a bit and bring the dubstep flava.

[Karoshi Bros-Love The World (Magik Johnson Vox Mix)]

Ok, it's taken me ages to figure out how to post mp3's but finally im there. Simply click the link above and it'll take you to zshare and preview the track then if u like it follow the download link and Bob's your uncle...

The first tune i've decided to post is from house veteran Dick 'Magik' Johnson. The man has gone under many a moniker since his days rocking the Hacienda, but thats irrelevant really since he's still busting out tunes from his studio in Auckland. This is an electro/tech remix of a tune by the Karoshi Bros that i'm a big fan of mainly cos of the squelchy synths and cool vocals done by what sounds like an 8-year old girl. The lyrics also have something of an interesting message- a rare thing in the world of dance music i think you'll agree...

[BeepLowTech...]

So the second BeepLowTech night has been and gone and can I happily report that it was a roaring success compared to the last one. The frantic last minute flyering must have worked because (despite the small price increase) the sweaty basement we fondly call 'The Jazz Place' enjoyed a mini-revival. The atmosphere was really friendly (probably beacause most ppl knew each other already) and the low-down dirty tech funk and minimal house exhibited by messers Sam Batt, Stavros, Jakey and Simon Green would have destroyed even the cheesiest of dancefloors. The only disappointment was that they couldn't find a decent library to put the night on in, oh well. Stay tuned and I will try and post a mix from one of the Beep Low Tech DJ's...
